The Plans

Paul proposed on April 14, and we were trying to figure out a lot of things. Well, we were trying to figure out everything. The first was the date - Beth suggested Christmas: 8 months to plan, family could come in town for the holidays and stick around for the wedding. Paul suggested May or June: fly off to a Caribbean island and get married barefoot on a beach. In what will surely be one in a lifetime of compromises, they settled on doing a smallish wedding in the July timeframe in the Wilmington area. After checking with some of the family, we settled on August 4. We chose a Sunday because we figured it would be hard to get anything on a Saturday on such short notice.

The planning process has been somewhat streamlined by all of the things we opted NOT to do. No seating arrangements, no formal wedding gowns (Beth's mom is making a lovely victorian style lacey number), no tuxes (although Paul was anxious to get back at his brother Brian for making him wear a tuxedo at his wedding), no bouquet or garter tossing, no rehearsal dinners (it's far more sporting to wing it anyway), no churches (ceremony and reception all at one place - avoids having to draw 2 maps), no engraved invitations (we bought stationary and printed them ourselves for quite a unique look).

We've also been busy planning a few more non-traditional items, but we'll wait until the wedding day for you all to see them - we don't want to spoil the surprise!
