The Honeymoon

So, what do two people who will be just exhausted decide to do for a honeymoon? If it's August, you don't go south - especially if you're like Beth and can't handle too much sun. If you're Paul then can't leave your business for too long (his customers just won't understand that it's his honeymoon!), you don't want to take too many days off of work. So, the compromise seemed to be - New England! Short drive, quiet, great seafood, lots of charm.

First impression was - Martha's Vineyard. Sounds great, but most of it was already booked by the time we called, and then we realized that we also wanted to find good live music, and we were a little bit afraid that, short of knocking on James Taylor's door at 10pm, it might be hard to find on a quiet Island. So we started debating between Cape Cod and Newport, Rhode Island. Paul wanted the decision to be made, and Beth wanted to investigate every angle (a strategic ploy frequently used as a procrastinating mechanism to avoid making any decision at all), so Beth went to Border's and picked up 2 tour books - one on Cape Cod, and one on Newport. The hunt begins...

As we sat there, about 5 weeks before the honeymoon is to begin, we started searching through the books for where might be better to stay. Paul mentioned to Beth, "there's some kind of good music festivals in Newport, aren't there?". Beth starts searching through the index for music festivals, and finds out that the Ben & Jerry's Folk Festival is held the first weekend of August every year, right in Newport. Unfortunately, that's the weekend we're going to be married, and it's too late to change either the date of the wedding or the date of the festival to accomodate our attendance. But industrious as Beth and Paul both are, they started searching (on the Internet, of course) - and voila - they found that this year, the festival is on the SECOND weekend in August - perfect timing for a honeymoon! So, after a few phone calls, we had a hotel (actually a restored Inn - when you do New England, you have to do it right), and send away for tickets for the festival the next day.
